Rojac Refošk 2016
Region: Truške, Istria, Slovenia.
The Rojac family has been making traditional, minimal intervention in the coastal region of Slovenska Istra since the 17th century. The current winery was founded by the late Bruno Rojac in 1994 in Istria. Now run by Bruno’s son, Uroš, the estate continues combining traditional and modern practices, in both the winery and vineyards.
Rojac tends its vineyards Biodynamically, focusing much of its production on the grape Refosk. Refošk belongs to a family of grapes known as Refosco (plural: Refoschi). The lineage of the Refosco family runs through Northern Italy and Slovenia. Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is a red Italian wine grape grown predominantly in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, with its later and better known relative, Corvina, being cultivated in Valpolicella. Refošk is essentially native to the Istrian Peninsula. It echoes the flavors of its Italian relatives, while expressing a subtle rusticity all its own.
