Grenadine has gotten a bad rap over the years, but its classic profile of pomegranate and rose has a special kind of elegance lost to more modern cocktail explorations. Here (in a riff on a Jack Rose), we boost the its floral, aromatic palate with fresh rose petals and a house-made rose tincture.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Hudson Whiskey NY: Bright Lights, Big Bourbon
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- ¾ ounce J.T. Copper Grenadine
- 2 dashes Artemisia Junio Bitters
- Rose petals, for garnish
- Rose tincture (recipe below)
Preparation
-
Combine the whiskey, lemon juice, grenadine, and Junio Bitters in a shaker over ice. Shake well.
- Strain into a coupe glass. Using a dropper or a cocktail mister, apply a few drops or spritzes of the rose tincture to the top of the cocktail. Do not stir. Garnish with the rose petals.
In a mason jar, combine ½ cup rose petals with 1 cup spirits. Seal well. Vodka will produce the purest rose expression, any spirit may be used. Brandy is an especially lovely option.
Allow to infuse for at least two weeks, but longer if desired. Strain before use. May be used with a dropper or a cocktail mister. Keeps indefinitely.
