The key to the Sazerac is quality of its ingredients. Use a high quality rye for this cocktail. It defines the palate. Sumac bitters add aromatics and a little playfulness to an otherwise strong drink.
Ingredients
- Absinthe (to coat glass)
- ½ oz simple syrup
- 2 oz rye whiskey
- 3 dashes Artemisia Sumac Bitters
- Lemon rind, for garnish
Preparation
- Coat a chilled rocks glass with absinthe. In a shaker over plenty of ice, combine the simple syrup, rye, and bitters. Stir.
- Strain into the rocks glass. Twist a lemon rind over the glass to release its oils. Drop the twist in the glass or garnish with a fresh one. Serve up.
