Washing bourbon with toasted sesame oil adds subtle smoke and silkiness to this very autumnal cocktail. Equinox adds bitter spice, while the bitters bring in just a touch of salinity.
Ingredients
- 2 oz toasted sesame oil-washed bourbon (recipe below)
- 1 oz Artemisia Equinox Sweet Potato Gentiane
- 1 dash Artemisia Salt & Sorghum Bitters
- Orange rind, for garnish
Preparation
- Combine the bourbon, Equinox, and bitters in a shaker over ice. Stir until well-chilled.
- Strain into a Nick and Nora or coupe glass and garnish with the orange rind.
For the toasted sesame oil-washed bourbon: combine 1 cup of bourbon with 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil in a sealed container. Shake well and allow to stand at room temperature for 24 hours. Transfer the container to the freezer and chill until the oil solidifies at the top of the bourbon. Carefully strain off the bourbon from the chilled oil and store at room temperature until ready to use.
