Fred Jerbis (FJ) stands for "Frederico's Herbs". The name is Friulian in origin, and speaks to the importance of their unique region in the composition of their spirits. Owner and founder Frederico Cremasco found a love and obsession with wild herbs many years ago. Fred would study the herbs in the forests of Carina, grow them in neighboring fields, and finally come to the grand experiment of extracting their essences. Frederico is an alchemist continually in a dialog with nature; a researcher experimenting with new combinations of flavors, and an herbalist growing plants with care day by day.
Each of FJ's products takes its inspiration from classic Italian Liquorology, dating back to 1946. Vermut 16, as the name suggests, is made from 16 local botanicals and aged in cherry barrels. The botanicals are infused into a base wine made from an obscure grape native to Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Schioppettino. This lends it a floral, peppery quality, while the botanicals add an herbal, almost anise element.
