Collection: Pairing Red Wines with Tomatoes

Pairing tomatoes with wine can be a tricky game. We prefer to pair cooked tomatoes with high-acid, modestly tannic reds. Your wine should keep pace with the power and acidity in the tomatoes without overpowering them.
Vino 40/40, a small producer from Argentina, makes a very lovely red blend that works with just about anything. Bodega Picos' Loteta Tinto is another great all-purpose option.
Alternatively (and Andrew's favorite), Birichino’s "Saint Georges" Zinfandel, echoes the restrained, food-friendly incarnations of the Italian Primitivo (another name for the Zinfandel variety).
