Lafazanis' Agiorgitiko is a classic expression of traditional Greek winemaking. The Agiorgitiko variety is indigenous to Greece, and was traditionally grown in the Nemea region of the Peloponnese. Today's it's one of the most popular Greek wine grapes. Often vinified as a single varietal, Agiorgitiko is especially expressive of its terroir, varying in tannin and fruit according to its growing conditions. Lafazanis' rendition has notable tannin structure, paired with notes of blackberry, black pepper, and nutmeg.
About Lafazanis
About Lafazanis
The history of the Lafazanis Winery began in 1946, when Vasilis Lafazanis started crafting wine in Piraeus. In 1960, the Lafazanis family established its first privately-owned winery in Magoula, Attica. In 1985, the family’s second generation, with its academic education on oenology, its experience, and its vision, laid the foundations for a high-quality, state-of-the-art winery. Ever since that time, armed with its implicit faith in the fruits of Greek viticulture, the Lafazanis Winery has worked to cultivate grape varieties native to Greece. In 1993, faithfully keeping to that perspective, Spyros Lafazanis relocted their production to the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Nemea region. His new lineup showcased both domestic and international grape varieties. He further expanded his production in 2012, when the winery began exploring tsipouro, a spirit crafted from grape pomace. Today, the Lafazanis Winery is certified organic. They continue to produce incredible wines and spirits, with a special eye to traditional varieties, all while managing their facilities and the surrounding landscape sustainably.
