Translating roughly as "The Rascal", La Birba is a modern new creation from an otherwise traditional winemaker.  The first in a line of new pet-nats (affectionately named "Monsters"), La Birba turns an antiquated Italian variety on its head.  Made from 100% Lacrima, this aggressively dry, happily fizzy oddity is unexpectedly versatile.  It finds equal purchase as a pre-dinner refreshment and as the bubbles behind the bar.   A strange and exciting new direction in an otherwise traditionalist region.
