Producer: Sineann
Varietal: Grüner Veltliner
Region: St. Paul, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Sineann is a small producer of highly intense wine based in Oregon's storied Willamette Valley wine country. Nearly all of Sineann's wines are single-vineyard, with an emphasis on low crop levels, ensuring the highest possible concentration of flavor. Led by winemaker Peter Rosback, their approach is minimalistic. The wines are treated with meticulous care. When oak is called for, it is specifically toasted French barrels from trusted coopers. No expense is spared.
Peter came to winemaking is 1985. He later launched Sineann in 1994 with then partner David O'Reilly. David would continue on to open Owen Roe, and Peter would carry Sineann into the present day. Now one of the finest wine producers in the Pacific Northwest, Peter is passionate about making wines he loves, and it shows. Like most in the region, his specialty is his Pinot Noir, but in recent years he has expanded his portfolio. Peter's work showcases the underestimated power and density of pacific northwest terroir.
Grüner is a relatively new varietal for Sineann. Drawn to the balance of aromatics and acidity in Austrian Grüner, Peter jumped at the opportunity to craft his own Oregonian cast.
The 2020 vintage is a single vineyard varietal expression Pear Blossom Vineyards in the Columbia Gorge. Known for its intense mistral and climatic variation, the Columbia Gorge is a hotbed of vineyards and winemaking talent. Sineann's Grüner has aptly captured the nuance and spirit of this special place. Its broad palate marries it well to roasted winter greens, stuffing, and the many accoutrements of the holiday table.
