Quinta Dona Mafalda "Little Mafalda" Red 2022

Quinta Dona Mafalda is a winery in transition. In 2016, they began the immense process of transitioning their production away from modern, conventional methods to sustainable, ancestral techniques. Their vineyard is planted entirely to native Portuguese varieties, with 1/3 of the estate given over to old vine growth. They still use the traditional Portuguese stone Lagares to foot-tread a portion of their grapes, and tend their fields in part by horse and plow. The Mafalda line is dedicated to preserving the traditional heritage of Portuguese grape varietals in an otherwise heavily internationalized market. Tradition is held in practice and in lineage. In the winery, one finds the practice. The lineage is in the varieties themselves.
