In this vintage, Quartzwood Farm features Noiret, a hybrid grape with incredible flavor and hardy resilience to disease. Having proven itself in the arena as a competitor with its European cousins, wineries throughout the state are exploring its untapped potential. Few, however, have given it the due that this rendition offers. Vinified as a dry, natural sparkling rosé, this wine brings beautiful saturated pink color pressed straight off the skins. The grapes were gently foot trodden and whole cluster pressed before being allowed to finish fermentation in the bottle, as is typical of pet nat.

Quartzwood holds a special place in our hearts. Winemaking and veteran viticulturist, Ben Sedlins, acted as a mentor to Kelly during her early days in the world of wine. He has continued to offer guidance through the development of Artemisia Farm and Vineyard, and remains a friend after many years. After over a decade working managing vineyards throughout Virginia and witnessing first hand the immense chemical burden that European grapes require in order to tolerate our humid climate, he embarked on a journey to challenge the common narrative. His work redefines expectations of Virginian wine in and beyond the region, proving that we can, indeed, carve out an identity that marries both wine and sustainability.

Technical Details

This wine is a treatise in minimal intervention winemaking. Whole cluster pressed and inoculated with a native yeast starter. Aged just 2 months in bottle prior to release, with minimal added sulfur.
