Malagouzia is a white Greek grape variety native to central Greece. Despite its ancient lineage, it was very nearly lost to time. the 1970s, Malagouzia thought to be all but extinct. Today, after painstaking work from university professors and top growers, Malagouzia is once again one of the leading varieties grown in Greece.
As an orange wine, Kamkoutis' Malagouzia is allowed to remain in contact with its skins after pressing. This lends it subtle tannin and a more robust, nuanced fruit profile. Look for quince, kumquat, peach, lotus, hazelnut on the palate.

About Kamkoutis
Between Lake Polyfyto and the Pieria Mountains, at the foot of Mount Velventos, Yiannis and Maria Kamkoutis chose to take advantage of the special terroir of the area to establish their vineyard. Their 8 hectares of vineyards are dedicated to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Xinomavro and the local varieties of Tsapournakos, Limnionas, Petsiariko, Koukouli and Dogo. Beyond the vineyard, they have a two-story, stone-built winery. The multi-story construction offers natural airflow and temperature control, as well as a beautiful location for educational workshops and events. Their wines all fall under the line “Kourites,” a regional name referring to both a local village as well as to the large wooden barrels once used locally to store wine.
