Gamba Campedel Rosso Veronese 2016
Varietal: Corvina 40%, Corvinone 40%, Croatina 20%.
Region: Valpolicella, Italy
Gamba winery lies in the heart the Valpolicella Classica wine region and it owns 15 hectares of vineyards set out on terraces on the rolling hills at about 300 meters above sea level. The winery was established in 2003 by the three brothers: Giovanni, Giuseppe, and Martino Aldrighetti. The name "Gamba" is a nod to their family's local nickname, "Leg" in Italian. Each member of the Aldrighetti family is quite tall, so much so that they're affectionately called "legs" by neighbors and friends.
Each vintage is made from estate-grown grapes, with a focus on regionally traditional varietals. The grapes harvest is carried out completely by hand, after which they are placed into wooden trays and dried in a special drying room for some months. The process is similar to that of Amarone production. While the resulting wine is not quite as concentrated, it nevertheless bears all the hallmarks of its parent style.
