Domaine des Cognettes
Domaine des Cognettes Le Pas Rouge
Producer: Domaine des Cognettes
Region: Clisson, Loire Valley, France
Domaine des Cognettes is the handiwork of two brothers: Stephane and Vincent. Raised in a lineage of winegrowers, their wines have been certified organic since 2010. Their winery is located in Clisson, a medieval city nestled beside the rivers Sèvre & Maine in the Muscadet appellation. With 30 hectares under vine and nine generations of history under their belt, the brothers of Domaine des Cognettes are leading the next generation of traditional winemaking in Loire.
Known for imparting bracing acidity and salinity to its wines, the Muscadet appellation is perhaps most noted for its Melon de Bourgogne. In this case, gamay takes the center stage, stepping away from traditional Beaujolais renditions and into something all its own.
In this bottling, the grapes are whole cluster pressed and fermented with native yeasts. Fermentation occurs in fiberglass, rendering the wine fresh and fruit-forward.
