Domaine de Majas Rouge 2018

Domaine de Majas was established by Alain Carrère in 1992.  Alan follows organic and biodynamic protocols in his vineyards, focusing on terroir-expressivity and minimal intervention winemaking techniques.  Majas is located in the French Côtes Catalanes region, where soils are largely given over to volcanic rock and limestone.  While technically under the AOC of Côtes du Roussillon, Alain classifies his wines under Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes.  This affords him the greatest flexibility in winemaking, freeing him from the strict AOC regulations applied to neighboring winemakers.

The vines in his 2018 blend range in age from 20 to 120 years-old.  They  are fermented on indigenous yeast and then aged in concrete.  The finished wine is both spritely and serious, showing the levity and freshness of young vines and the concentrated spice of older stock.
