Lagrein is an ancient grape variety native to Trentino-Alto Adige in northeastern Italy. It has been grown in this area for hundreds of years, and is first mentioned in texts dating back as far as the 16th Century.
Castel Salleg is located high in the alpine mountains of Alto Adige. The tasting room and cellars were build into an existing castle, paying homage to an agricultural gentry with origins hundreds of years in the making. The border cultural influence and cooler climate lead to wines resembling those of Germany: lighter-bodied, elegant reds and structured, high-acid whites.
