Xinomavro is throughout to be native to the uplands of Naousa in the regional cluster of Imathia and in Amyntaio. It takes its name from the Greek words for "sour". xino (or ksino) and "black", mavro. As its name suggests, it's both powerfully tart and inky dark. Known for its expressive nature, xinomavro is one of the most widely accessible red Greek varieties.
Boutari's Xinomavro is a classic expression of Naoussa winemaking: structured, full-bodied, and concentrated. The nose centers on xinomavro's fruit aspects (red fruit, blackberry, plum) while the palate is spiced and savory (sun-dried tomato, cinnamon, and toasted wood.)
