About Bodegas Viña Ijalba

Dionisio Ruiz Ijalba planted his first vineyard in 1975 on a former open-cast mine. The soil was shallow and relatively infertile: perfect for growing grapes. The vineyard became an example of regenerative land use through agriculture. Grapes can grow where few other crops can. In this way, Dionisio transformed a barren site into one of the region's best tempranillo plots. Since its founding, Viña Ijalba has participated in a number of regenerative agriculture projects centered on the recuperation of native Rioja grape varieties. Viña Ijalba is one of the first bodegas in the world to produce wines exclusively of tempranillo blanco, maturana blanco, maturana tinta.
