Wife and husband team Marita and Guglielmo Manenti personally tend to their 4 hectares of vineyards. Located in the historical district of Vittoria, the vineyards are planted in the traditional bush vine system, with vines varying in age from 20 to 40 years. Manenti practices biologic farming with minimal intervention in the vineyard. With an emphasis on native varietals, they cultivate grapes acclimated to their region, limiting the need for aggressive viticultural or enological techniques.
In the last century the Ragusa province was so deeply affected by the phylloxera epidemic that most farmers, having witnessed the devastation of their vineyards, decided to change their crops into fruit and vegetables. Only in the last 20 years there has been a steady return to vine growing and Manenti belongs to the new generation of winemakers that work side by side with local farmers with more than 70 harvests under their belts.
